October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Roughly 15 to 20 percent of all pregnancies in the United States end in miscarriage. It will be a morning of education, support, reassurance and healing conversation.

Birth philosophies, labor plans, newborn hospital procedures, postpartum plans -- these are just some of the things to think about as you prepare for birth. We'll talk with mothers, educators and care providers to find out the things you should think about before "delivery day". Is a birth plan necessary? The Motherhood Café - The Breastfeeding Cafe : A Practical Guide to How Things Work, Variations of Normal and When to Seek Help

The Motherhood Collective is not a “breastfeeding only” organization and we fully support all methods of infant feeding. The best baby is a FED baby and the way you feed your baby is your decision. However, we think breastfeeding is worthy of its own Cafe topic and hope that you find this morning’s information educational -- whether you breastfeed or not! This will be a morning of conversation with some of our area’s most knowledgeable breastfeeding resources. How does breastfeeding work? What should you expect in the earliest days? How do you know if you’re doing it right? What are common issues and how do you know if you have them? What kind of help is available? What are common misconceptions? We hope everyone will leave this topic having learned something new about breastfeeding!

The Motherhood Café - The Sleep Cafe : Healthy Rest for the Entire Family

Sleep is crucial for brain development and health! Often we spend our earliest days of motherhood in search of sleep and healthy routines for our infants. As our children grow, sleep continues to play an important role in our schedules and habits. How much sleep is best? What is sleep training? Do specialized sleep training methods work? We will talk to sleep expert Candy Beers-Kim about healthy attachment, how to sift through all the advice, and how to find the rhythms and practices that best fit your family.

Our programs are FREE and OPEN to the public. See details below for information regarding our FREE childcare, up to age four.

As always, we will also be broadcasting via Facebook Live!

Our Cafe mornings close with peer-led small groups on Pregnancy/Birth, Infancy (0-6 months, 6-12 months) and Parenting. During small group time, we are often able to offer Care Group for those walking through infertility, miscarriage and child loss.

Children under one, can stay right with you. For children between the ages of one and four, we offer FREE on-site childcare.

---Childcare slots are limited and registration is on a first come first serve basis. Childcare reservations will be accepted no sooner than a week prior to a Cafe event and can be made by e-mailing childcare@themotherhoodcollective.org with the following information:

  • Mother's full name/contact phone number/e-mail address

  • Child's full name

  • Child's Age and birth date
