Do you know the #1 complication of pregnancy and childbirth?

Anxiety and depression.

It is true that approximately 60-80% of new mamas experience the Baby Blues, a period of temporary moodiness beginning 1 to 3 days after delivery symptoms usually disappear within two weeks. For some of us, 20% of new mamas to be exact, we experience something more than the Baby Blues. We experience Postpartum Depression. While the symptoms are similar to Baby Blues, they are more persistent, lasting throughout the day and longer than two weeks, they can impair a mother’s ability to function. Postpartum Depression can occur anytime during the first year after delivery.

The good news is for mamas experiencing Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) you are not alone! 1 in 5 new mamas are affected. With help you will be well.

Support groups can be an important part of recovery. Talking to mamas that have survived PMAD can be very helpful. Support groups offer the opportunity to validate experiences, share coping strategies, and gain support and encouragement.
